Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, on the island of Malta, is a unique testament to a mysterious people who inhabited the region some eight thousand years ago. A veritable underground necropolis, the hypogeum contained up to seven thousand bodies held in underground chambers on three levels linked by dozens of corridors forming what was a true labyrinth.
