For centuries, Salzburg was under the domination of the Prince Bishops. The city still has prodigious architecture dating back to this sumptuous period, a mixture of Gothic, Romanesque and Baroque. There is a succession of religious buildings along the streets (Benediktinerstiftskirche St. Peter, cathedral, St. Peter’s cemetery, etc.) and the old town is resplendent with palaces and manors of another era.
Mozart’s birthplace, Salzburg has made a tremendous contribution to the world of music by producing musical geniuses such as Mozart, Riedl or, more recently, Herbert Von Karajan.
