The history of Innsbruck goes back to prehistoric times when the region’s glaciers receded leaving a legacy of wide valleys to mankind. The Romans were the first to occupy this town in the heart of the Alps but it was the Hapsburgs in the person of Maximilian the 1st who gave the city its sparkle.

The old town contains the mausoleum of Emperor Maximilian, the Silver Chapel and the "Little Golden Roof". The town has high quality sports infrastructures built for the 1976 Olympic Games.

Historic Art Museum Ambras Castle

Archduke Ferdinand II. had the medieval Ambras Castle converted to the present Renaissance castle to display his world famous collections. The Archduke created what is now known as one for the oldest museums of modern times. Take a stroll into the Renaissance and discover the fabulous Castle Ambras.
