Kinderdijk-Elshout Network of Windmills

In the Netherlands, man is constantly pitted against the onslaught of the waves to preserve his reclaimed land. From Kinderdijk to Elshout are dozens of windmills, some of them built as long ago as the early 18th century: they use the force of the wind to drain water from this land recovered from the sea. This prodigious network is now part on the world heritage list (UNESCO).
