Vienne

To the south of Lyons, Vienne was founded by the Gauls and subsequently invaded by the Romans who extended the city and left behind a number of important buildings.

Vienne is now one of the most admirable ancient cities in France, where the temple of Augustus and Livia and Cybèle archaeological gardens and Roman theatre (home to an annual Jazz Festival) can still be seen.

Every era has made a contribution to this unique place, including Saint-Maurice’s Cathedral, a remarkable mixture of Romanesque and Gothic art.
