Rhône Valley

Ardèche and its caves

The Ardèche is many things: a nature park, a Département and a river, it has numerous attractions but the name is always the same. The Départment contains the park, with its hills and wooded valleys, home to unique prehistoric caves, as in Chauvet, for example (discovered in 1994) or the Madeleine and Huguenots caves which have an exceptional collection of rock paintings and engravings.

The meanders of the river before it runs into the Rhône form astounding gorges, best admired from the village of Sainte-Remèze.
