The Romantic Route or Romantische Straße from Würzburg to Füssen passes 27 destinations in southern Germany which have largely retained their original appearance. It is the best-known tourist route in Germany, leading to Rothenburg ob der Tauber with its medieval town centre, the Wieskirche, a UNESCO World Heritage site in exuberant Rococo style, and Augsburg, home to the Fuggerei, a social housing estate dating back to the 16th century.

Whether you start in Würzburg in the north with its Marienberg fortress or in the south at King Ludwig’s magical Neuschwanstein castle, whether you travel along the entire route or just parts of it - the enchanting scenery, the wealth of castles and palaces, old market towns and churches are the guarantee for a wonderful experience - not to mention the culinary treasures of the region which are sure to appeal - not just to the romantically-minded. Füssen has its own Neuschwanstein Festival Hall, Festspiel Neuschwanstein, which puts on a musical about the life of King Ludwig.
