From the Ubigau Palace to Pillnitz Castle, the Elbe Valley has a succession of incomparable buildings tracing the history of German architecture from the 16th century to the present time.

Dresden, in the centre, further arouses the interest of visitors with its exceptional historic heritage, which suffered considerable damage during the Second World War. Rebuilding of the city had a fairly unusual side to it, with a mix of identical reconstruction and the design of modern buildings echoing the previous ones (including the synagogue). The Opera House where Wagner and Strauss once officiated, art collections of astounding richness, the Zwinger or the immense baroque cathedral are some of the marvels that abound in this city of the arts.
