Baden-Baden

The Black Forest’s main spa town is cosmopolitan Baden-Baden. The two big thermal spas - the magnificent Friedrichsbad built in 1877 and the modern Caracalle-Thermen - offer guests a wide range of treatments. The sights include the Old and the New Castles, the domed Old Railway Station in Neo-Renaissance style, the spa quarter and the old town centre. They attract many tourists and not just spa guests.

The casino is the oldest in Germany and one of the most beautiful in the world. It opens its doors to a national and international clientele every day. The baroque-style gaming halls are lavishly furnished with the most luxurious materials. Fyodor Dostoyevsky, one of its most famous patrons, was inspired by Baden-Baden to write his novel The Gambler.

Horse racing at Iffezheim is a major social event, not only because of the buzz of excitement, but also because of the glamorous hats...
