Aachen

Aachen was the capital of Charlemagne’s Empire and at one time the centre of the Christian world. However, the history of this city, at the frontiers of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, goes back to more ancient times when the Romans used to come here to enjoy the warm, sulphurous springs in their spa baths. From a heritage standpoint, the city is not devoid of monuments and other old buildings.

The Cathedral, the construction of which was started by the might emperor, is a must; it is on the World Heritage list, contains treasures of beauty and was once the coronation site of a number of Germanic rulers.
