Pompeii and Vesuvius


Vesuvius is one of the world’s best known volcanoes. It is very active and was the cause of an unprecedented disaster in 79 AD when it reached the height of its activity, destroying Herculanum and Stabies and burying Pompeii under the ashes. Strangely enough, it is thanks to this catastrophe that the ancient city of Pompeii was perfectly preserved and we are able nowadays to see a Roman city as it existed at the time via its streets, villas, forum and temples!
