Sarlat and Les Eyzies

While the medieval architecture and old light-ochre chalky stonework makes Sarlat an entrancing sight, the capital of the Black Perigord is interesting for its thousand-year old history and wild surroundings. The town contains treasures such as the “Lanterne des Morts” tower and the “Hôtel de Maleville” or the House of La Boétie. From a gastronomy standpoint, Perigord mushrooms and truffles come to the fore.

To the west, the town of Les Eyzies has a multitude of troglodyte caves and other underground refuges that testify to the existence of prehistoric man in this area.
