Great South West

Périgord

The four different areas of the Perigord are located around Périgueux.

In the centre is the “White” Perigord, stretching along the Isle Valley, its broad grassy plains alternating with chalk plateaux that give it its name.

In the north, large expanses of forestland and meadows with streams and rivers running through it explain why it is called the “Green” Perigord.

To the Southeast, the “Black” Perigord, covered in woodland, has age-old castles and prehistoric caves.

The Southwest, which is Bergerac country, goes by the name of the "Red” Perigord, a testimony to its vineyards.
