Fortaleza is the most westerly point in Europe, along with the Cabo da Roca lighthouse. Atlantic waves crash against the rocks at the foot of this impressive building. At the entrance, two cannons remind you that you are entering an ancient fortress. This is a building of character and immense charm, with preserved 17th century interiors, delicious cuisine and the beach just two steps away. Try watersports, play golf, or go to the casino in Estoril. For vibrant culture and nightlife, Lisbon is just 30 km away.
The lemon-yellow facade of the Casa da Calçada hints at the sunny stay that awaits at this hotel. Situated in the heart of the town of Amarante, between the bustle of Porto and the sun-dappled countryside of the Douro Valley, both less than an hour away, this hotel, with its golden interiors, is a favourite with those who love beauty, great wine and golf. Nearby you find a splendid 18-hole golf course. The hotel also produces “Vinho Verde” wines, and on-site activities include a tour of the region’s best wine “quintas” that will ensure that you never forget the differences between Tawny, Ruby, White or Vintage Port.
On the volcanic soil of Madeira, “the pearl of the Atlantic”, this former hunting lodge is a perfect example of the local tradition of quintas, lordly manor houses converted into charming hotels. Casa Velha do Palheiro was built in 1804 and its three buildings are havens of calm nestling in the celebrated Palheiro gardens, created two hundred years ago, alongside the renowned championship Palheiro golf course. It’s the ideal place to explore nature along the “levadas”, or mini canals, and the stunning botanical gardens. Relax in the delightful spa, practice your golf swing at the golf club or visit the town of Funchal with its monuments and cafés where the famous Madeira wine is served.

From its ideal location, the Eleven has breathtaking views of the Eduardo vii park, the town of Lisbon and the River Tagus. This is a property created by eleven friends, gourmets and lovers of Lisbon, and their passion is evident in every detail of this wonderful place. The Eleven does far more than simply serve exceptional cuisine in a warm, sophisticated atmosphere. It celebrates the true “art de vivre” through its culinary creations that are a delight for the senses, from the taste buds to the eyes. Grand Chef and owner Joachim Koerper is a great fan of products from southern Europe, which he showcases to perfection in his dishes. He invites you to discover a sun-drenched cuisine inspired by his philosophy: to use fresh, natural produce and mould it with a flourish of art and creativity.
Settle down onto the terrace of your room and admire the view: beneath your eyes, Porto, listed as a Unesco World Heritage site, and the sinewy curves of the Douro river. The Yeatman, located in the heart of Vila Nova de Gaia, the historical headquarters of the Port wine houses, owes its name to a family of British traders who are still active today: their legacy can be found in the subtle décor of the guest rooms, the magnificent hotel cellar with its fine collection of Portuguese wines and the wine-tasting programmes offered by the hotel. This whole attachment to the world of wine can also be seen in their final touch, their choice of Caudalie and the Vinothérapie® treatments for the Spa.
