In the centre of the triangle between Switzerland, Germany and France, Basle focuses on young people and culture. A university city, its cultural dynamism is reflected by over thirty theatres, opera houses, art galleries and museums.
There are a number of interesting sights to be seen in the old town (the Market Place, Cathedral, Town Hall) contrasting with old industrial premises converted into bars, dance halls and show centres.
A city of fairs and markets, Basle also has the largest zoo in Switzerland. Another sight worth seeing is the river port on the Rhine, connecting Switzerland with the North Sea.
