The capital of Japan, standing in a bay of the same name, Tokyo is a gigantic, highly-populated conurbation, famous for its exaggerated modernism and hectic activity.
From the luxury buildings and shops of Ginza to the red-light quarter of Shinjutsu, the city is spread over 23 districts and has close to 13 million inhabitants.
While the city is given over to modernism (the many buildings or Tokyo tower, a rival for the Eiffel Tower), it still has a splendid heritage, the Imperial Palace in particular, a testimony to an exceptional history and culture that still reaches out across the world.
