Kamakura

In the district of Kanagawa (adjoining Tokyo) on the island of Honshu, Kamakura is sacred to Buddhists who, in the past thousand years, have erected numerous temples and sanctuaries there.

The remarkable element in a region full of charm is undoubtedly the Kamakura Buddha, the building of which started in the 13th century at the instigation of the itinerant monk, Shamon-Joko.

The past few centuries have brought a few modifications to the town, influenced by the Zen style.
