Mount Fuji

The 3,776-metre high peak of Mount Fuji is Japan’s highest mountain. It is volcanic and has an unforgettable conical form, the subject of numerous poems and paintings, inspiring generations of artists.

It is sacred and said to be the home of a Shinto goddess and, as a result, climbing the mountain was long prohibited. Although dormant for three centuries, the Japanese fear and venerate this august mountain whose anger could change the face of the region.
