Awaji and Shikoku Islands

Connected to the other regions of Hyogo by the largest suspension bridge in the world, Awaji is a remote, preserved island where nature follows its course without the depredation of man. Apart from its wild beauty and renowned craftware (incense, tiles...), Awaji is the birthplace of the Japanese marionette theatre: the ningyo joruri.

Shikoku, on the other hand, owes its reputation to the temples and other Buddhist monuments on the island, works of man continued for centuries, giving birth to a pilgrimage site of prime importance.
