In the heart of a fortified enclosure surrounded by the Tage, Toledo has a treasure of beautiful sights. The old town around the cathedral has an abundance of historic buildings such as the El Transito synagogue and the former Santa Maria la Blanca converted into a church.

The cathedral was once a Visigoth church then a mosque before it became a cathedral; it has paintings by El Greco (the illustrious painter who spent his last days in the city). Other masterpieces and works by other painters (Goya and Titian) can be seen in the cathedral, the Santa Cruz museum and the El Greco Casa-Museo.
