Few cities have been as marked as Caceres by numerous Hispano/Arab conflicts. Conquered by one civilisation, taken by another, before falling under the domination of the first - its eventful history is echoed in its architecture, reminiscent of both peoples.

Its old town is a mix of Romanesque, Gothic and Islamic in a unique kind of uniformity where Roman Catholic houses and Arab towers (including the Torre del Bujaco) form a spectacular ensemble.
