Lake Placid

Tucked into the northern part of New York State high in the Adirondacks, Lake Placid is a town of renewal, where unspoiled wilderness, natural spruce and pine forests and crystal lakes filled with trout and bass energize the spirit and sooth the soul. Gaining international renown after playing host to the Winter Olympic Games in both 1932 and 1980, Lake Placid still draws Olympic athletes who come to train in the town’s elite venues including the luge and bobsled runs, where the public may also try its hand at a thrill sport. Nearby Whiteface Mountain is for skiers of all levels, snowboarders and snowshoers.

In summer, warmer temperatures turn the backcountry into a playground for fly-fishing, canoeing on Mirror Lake, cycling, or hiking. Fine family-style restaurants and cozy inns mark the day’s end for those who come to sample this all-seasons resort town.
