Long known as the Cradle of Independence, Boston is many things, but its roots will always be historical. Here musket-bearing revolutionaries fought for independence, argued over the Constitution in Faneuil Hall, and were buried in Granary Cemetery. Labyrinth-like streets are lined with old brick homes and 17th-century colonial sites, but Boston is also a city of progression. It has more than 50 colleges and universities. Parks and green spaces are lush and colorful, lending the city a feeling of openness.
Neighborhoods are filled with character: the elegant mansions of Beacon Hill, the government holdings of Old West End and the Italian restaurants of the North End. Symphony Hall, the Museum of Fine Arts and a variety of theaters lend themselves to cultural pursuits. This is a city of many “firsts:” the first library, park, public school system, and even subway. For some it is simply “Beantown,” home to the beloved Red Sox and Bruins. For all, it is where Freedom Trail begins and ends.
