Blenheim Palace
A gift from Anne Stuart to the Duke of Marlborough for his victory over the French, Blenheim Palace is a masterpiece of English baroque art. Designed by architect, John Vanbrugh, the castle was created with an emphasis on exuberance and excess. It is 137 metres long, with immense, richly-decorated rooms linked by one long corridor. The result is spectacular.
Around the Palace runs a 15-km wall enclosing splendid gardens designed by Brown, the greatest English landscape gardener, which replaced the former hunting ground in the 18th century.
