The New Forest

Created by William the Conqueror in 1079, the New Forest recently was awarded ’National Park’ status. The New Forest is a unique area of historical, ecological and agricultural beauty.

The inhabitants of the forest, known as ’Commoners’, have the right to pasture their ponies, cattle, pigs and donkeys in the open forestland - so be very careful as you drive! It is an outstanding recreational area for walking and riding.

The New Forest is full of the most beautiful woodland scenery. The best walks are to be found by taking the car into the forest, parking in one of the many designated parking sites, and then walking into the heart of the forest.
